Tatuaje Boris Review

A little info…..

The Boris was released back in 2009 along with the Drac by Tatuaje.  The Drac is part of the Monster Series and the misconception is that Boris is also part of the Monster Series.  However, Boris is in fact the Frank out of costume and part of the Actor’s Series which has been postponed as far as I know according to Pete Johnson.

2009 Tatuaje Boris Review

Size 7 x 49

Vitola:  Churchill

Wrapper:  Ecuadorian Sumatra Rosado

Drink: Water/Coffee

Time: 1hr 50 min

Location:  Tasty Tobacco Shop

Construction/Appearance:

The wrapper has a wonderful oil sheen as well as being slightly toothy with veins running the length of the cigar.  The cap on the head is perfect and so is the squeeze test on the Boris.  It has medium weight but feels very well balanced in my hand.  Because the band is very simple, it puts all of the focus on the gorgeous wrapper which whether it was intentional or not, a very smart decision.

Burn/Draw:

The cut across the head is good as is the prelight draw though I thought it could have been slightly tighter but nothing to worry about.  The Tatuaje Boris gives off velvety smoke as I light the foot patiently.  My overall experience with the draw was perfect, removing any earlier doubts and the burn never wavered or needed corrections.  Major plus in my book.  The ash itself look delicate but held on over two inches falling when I tapped it into the ash tray.  I certainly didn’t want it ending up on the floor.

Flavor/Aroma:

The prelight aroma of the Tatuaje Boris was filled with strong notes of wood and some nuts.  The initial few puffs reminded me of coffee and roasted nuts which transitioned into caramel flavor.  The first third was essentially the same but nevertheless, inviting to say the least.  The second third are consistent with the first third but at this point I am detecting leather undertones and a possible mint flavor but it is extremely light.  As I entered the final third, leather is playing more of a dominant role and notes of herbal spices and pepper start picking up. The last third does a great job of balancing out the cigar’s flavor profile and the Tatuaje Boris was much more enjoyable as a result.

Final Thoughts

  • The Tatuaje Boris is a superb smoke with a great burn and draw
  • The complex flavor profile kept me entertained throughout the entire smoke
  • Wonderful medium to full bodied cigar that is almost smooth for the entire 2 hours
  • If you see them on the secondary market at a reasonable price, go for them.
